Think my grandad said goodbye to me in my dream

In 1990, when i was 18, my beloved grandad died due to cancer. I was on holiday when it happened and i was heartbroken, not only to lose him but that i wasnt there to say goodbye. I didnt want to go away in the first place but he made me go.

A few days after he died, i was back home. I'd fallen asleep and started dreaming. Then i dreamt that i was outside in my parents back garden. I was walking down the garden path towards the back door when i saw my grandad come out the house. He looked wonderful! Healthy, happy, the man he used to be before cancer ravaged him. He was wearing his 'work clothes'..open neck checked shirt, trousers, boots and his favourite flat cap. I asked him where he was going. He said he was going home. He said that i shouldnt worry about him, that he was fine now. He told me he loved me and then walked down the side of the house, out the front gate and in the direction of his house. He looked back at me, smiled and then he seemed to fade as he was walking away.

I'm convinced that my grandad came to me in my dreams to say goodbye and to tell me not to feel guilty about not being there when he passed. I will treasure that dream for the rest of my life.
