YouTube is a source of entertainment. I don't think anything posted on there is going to be subject to serious scientific scrutiny and certainly never cited as credible proof of Ghosts, Bigfoot, _____________ insert any paranormal phenomena on the dotted line as applicable.

Pics, video, digital images are far far too easy to fake nowadays. iphones have Apps to make highly credible ghost photos - we need better evidence not just some ambiguous images/EVP's/Personal accounts.

It would be what science has verified as evidence using scientific methodology and peer review. Film footage or photos are as I've said far too easy to fake and as such would not represent valid evidence unless captured under strict controlled conditions using double blind testing.

What people perceive as ghosts don't perform for either scientists or people making investigative programmes about haunted houses. What can be scrutinised is the individuals and the locations that these experiences are happening in and this has been done - most recently by Professor Richard Wiseman whose conclusions didn't sit well with those that believe that ghosts are the disembodied souls of the dead.

The more we understand human psychology and the workings of the brain the more we'll understand 'the supernatural' because it is this area of research that will eventually give us the answers we are all looking for.

One persons ghost is another persons moving shadow caused by an external but undiscovered light source Wink

It's a common misconception that our senses capture information accurately - they don't. For a start we are pattern seeking animals. We see faces and human shapes in places where they shouldn't be so we call them ghosts. We call it Paredolia and I think US programmes like TAPS call it matrixing.

When we see (or hear or smell or feel) what we call a ghost it is a highly subjective experience and as such influenced by our individual cultural references, beliefs and biological makeup. It is also influenced by the location, weather and the knowledge that the person has regarding the history of the haunting.

We frequently make errors of judgement based on the information our senses feed into the brain to be processed. Perception is reduced considerably in poor light conditions and we are more prone to making errors and mis diagnosing phenomena under these conditions. It's why the majority of ghost sightings are made at night.

How and why people see ghosts/UFOs/strange creatures is a huge field of research. I've been studying the subject for 35 years by reading and investigating and I'm still learning.

Essentially yes, that is in most cases what is happening. However I will add a proviso to that and admit that there are a tiny percentage of cases that are genuinely unexplainable but only unexplainable to a degree in that the data at the time was not captured in a way that would lend it to credible scientific scrutiny or the unique circumstances of the experience were not accurately recorded.
IMO these cases remain as unexplained pending further information.
Unfortunately due to the transient nature of the phenomena or the circumstances extant at the time this further information will never be gathered.

As a case in point I'd cite the Enfield Poltergeist as a typical example of this.
