When I was quite young I remember seeing the ghost of my Grandad. I was only about 5. I'd heard the old man had passed away after drinking poison, that wasn't the truth, I have no idea why my parents told me that. Truth is he died of TB.

Anyway, he usually visited us on a Sunday afternoon. It must have been a couple of weeks after he died when I heard a familiar knock on our front door and could see through the glass frame, that it was Grandad. Happily I let him in and gave him a big hug and took his coat for him to hang up in the closet. I was really happy to see him. I told him what I'd heard and said "Grandad I thought you were dead!" and he replied "I'm not dead love, I'm not dead..."
Well I followed him through to the front room and suddenly he was gone.. just gone.. in the blink of an eye. One minute he was there and the next he wasn't. My parents must have thought I was playing games or something when I asked where he was.

I am adamant that it was him... but nobody every believed me about that.

Yeah it was all as normal till I remembered he'd died and then everything was wierd... I remember thinking I must have been mistaken about him being dead, perhaps my parents had lied or something. The hug was real, the smell, even the feel of his coat, everything as normal like he'd normally do on a Sunday afternoon. I wasn't scared or anything, just a litte confused when he disappeared, not like he faded away but like he was never there in the first place.. I know that sounds odd. As for whether or not the coat disappeared - oddly enough it was still in the closet when he vanished. My mother found it and I remember her asking my Dad what that was doing in there and reasoning that he must have left it last time he visited before his death. I knew different but its not like anyone ever listens to me.

I have had similar experiences since. Quite a few actually including a poltergeist - a rather nasty one in fact.
