There desciption in part goes like this: "when it stood still, it flamed up, and appeared about three yards square,and when it ran, it contracted into [a strange] figure." The menreported their sighting to Governor James Winthrop who would later describe Everall as a "sober discreet man." From Everall's storyWinthrop wrote this description: "run swift as an arrow towards Charleston, anso up and down for about two or three hours. Other credible people saw the same light, after, and at about the same place." This mystery was never fully explained and considering both its movements and the time period all comets, meteorites, and modern aircraft have been ruled out. ...
