I had some experiences in my early 20's which I occasionally wonder about now, it's really a collection of a few small events that made me believe that some kind of ghost/poltergeist had been/is following me. I was wondering if there is anyone with a fair amount of knowledge into these things that could give a better insight as to what they recon it is? I have my own theories which I'll mention at the end. p.s sorry for the long story but it's hard to get across in a few sentences.

Anyway, I think I was 20 when I first noticed something weird - I was living in a hostel at the time, very, very depressed and at this time alone. I awoke one night with the feeling of breathing in my ear and heard something call my name and the distinct feeling of a presence. This happened for a couple of nights and then went away. It scared me a bit but I just put it down to being depressed, maybe a bit overtired and shrugged it off as my own imagination. Then a few weeks later a friend came to stay with me, by this time I had totally forgotten about my first experience (never even mentioned it to anyone) - we had drinks, watched a film and went to bed.

About 3-4 oclock in the morning I was woken by my friend shouting and turning the lights on, he was in a state of shock said he heard footsteps around his head (he was on a divan bed on the floor) and someone breathing/whispering into his ear. I recounted my story to him and then realised this thing was actually happening.

I don't recall anything happening for weeks after that, the next time something happened my girlfriend at the time came to stay. She was massaging my back so I was layed out on the bed, eyes closed, all lights were off - drifting off to sleep. The next thing I know, I feel her get "pushed" off of me, she screams points to the corner of the room, I look up just in time to catch the end of what I can only describe as some kind of "black mass" disolving away (note : all the lights were off and the room was in darkness, save a small amount of light from the moon outside through the curtains but this mass was clearly distinct and very black). She said to me that it felt like someone had pushed her pretty hard.

Something which may be worth noting : I bought a kitten, which one day shortly after I came home to find, sitting in the corner facing the wall (where we had seen this black mass), it wouldn't eat for hours and it didn't move from facing the corner of the wall either. One night that will always stick in my head, myself and partner at the time had fallen asleep and for some reason I awoke from a deep sleep, laying on my back with a horrific sense of dread, like there was evil in the room - I didn't say a word or move but my partner (who I thought was asleep) grabbed my hand and I said "can you feel this in the room" and she basically whispered to me that she could and described the exact same feeling. It was very unnerving and there was almost a static noise in the air and it felt like you could cut throught the atmosphere with a knife - in short it was horrible. Neither of us slept that night and left the light on all night.

Nothing else happened for quite a while until I think a few months later when there was about 8 people with me in the room and the lights went out. Of course bulbs going is nothing abnormal, so we held the door open to get light from the hallway and put in new bulbs. Two minutes after we did that the hallway lights blew and of course I instantly put it down to some faulty electrics (although I had lived there for a couple of years with no electrics problems previously).

I went out into the main hallway to find that other bulbs hadn't blow - it was only the ones in my room/outside my room, as I replaced the hallway lights, I heard shouting from my room, went back in to find another bulb had blown and 3/4 people who were in the room at the time reported that a bike had "flown" and landed on my bed, I didn't witness it this time, but I fully believe it. By this time I was under the impression that the building was definately haunted and was very old, but to my surprise when I asked the buildings manager, he said it was built in the late 80's.

Shortly after I moved out and totally forgot about all of it. Must have been six months to a year later, I was living in a flat with my first son who was 1 at the time.

I had a friend stay over (who knew absolutely nothing about my past experiences). In the morning at breakfast he told me, he had experienced strange breathing in his ears and someone whispering his name and touched him on the shoulder. He said he was too petrified to get up but didn't sleep much the rest of the night. Of course this bothered me greatly and confirmed my initial suspicion that whatever the "thing" was, was something to do with me. I lived at this property for a year and a few other things happened at this property, which were :

Very loud banging in the loft on a few occasions, im talking sounded like an anvil being dropped just above my head where I was sleeping (this was witnessed by my then girlfriend) - The loft was completely empty.

Very loud banging on the window (I was second floor)

A lamp on a table in the corner of the room (knowhere near anyone) moved on one of the same nights I heard banging in the loft and then flew off the table and smashed).

Not sure if this is related but a strange noise of a "parrot" like voice speaking at night which I heard on several occasions, I was only connected with one other flat and assumed they must have a bird - when I asked they said they didn't and none of the neighbours did either.

I moved to a house after a year and was with a new girlfriend and my son who was 2 at the time.

I mentioned the past experiences to her but could tell she was pretty sceptical so I never bothered mentioning again. I had lived there probablly 5 years and got into a conversation with someone on a radio station chatroom on the net which I used to visit, I ended up telling her about my experiences and aparently jinxed myself by saying "nothings happened for years now".

That night, there was an almighty bang on our bedroom door, again I'm talking that you couldn't have made that bang if you threw a 20 kg weight at the door. Both myself and my partner sat bolt upright, she believed me then. I inspected the door - no damage. I think whatever it was/is was letting me know it's still there even after all this time. It's been some 4 years since and (touch wood I haven't jinxed myself again) but nothing has happened since. I have lived at a different house for about 1.5 years and nothing has happened here as far as I know.

I think that whatever this thing is perhaps fed off my negative emotions etc and things started when I was at my lowest point. As I originally said I thought it was all in my head when it started and a product of my imagination until several people witnessed things over the years. I'd like to think that it was just mischievous, rather than evil - it seemed to want to scare me but never actually physically harmed me. It's clearly something to do with me and I wonder why it was following me from house to house.

What do other people think? Anyone got any ideas as to what this thing is?

Welcome to the forums..

One never knows what's on a spirits mind.
My opinion is that you may be a 'sensitive' meaning one who is easy to contact via the spirit world.
The spirit might just be trying to get attention. It could even be a relative or someone who lived in the house or on the land yeas ago.

I would not let it bother you. You could always politely ask it what it wants.
Or maybe politely ask to be left alone.
This is usually the easiest way to get peace but may not work.. It's a starting point.

Thankyou and thanks for the reply.

It doesn't really bother me so much now and as nothing has really happened for years so it's not a problem. I suspect I would be petrified if it started up again lol, but I would definately ask what it wants this time - I'd like to find out! Smile

Right, I sense the spirit is Martin, he died by falling off a cliff, the room you were in was the room in which he stayed. He doesn`t mean you any harm, but just wants your attention. He has unresolved issues, which he hoped maybe you could help him out with. He followed you ,as he has a connection to you, as you were the same age as him when he died. Talk to Martin tell him that he is scaring you and that could he please leave you alone.
