Hi there all,
I have decided to buy a camera but I don't want to spend a fortune. can anybody make any suggestions as to a good all rounder.
I have seen some real cheap on ebay but am not to sure about anything quite that cheap.
Do I need an opticle or digital zoom or both.
Now i'm determind to prove the existence of the paranormal or at least get these lights on film.
Thankyou |

Always go for optical zoom over digital zoom - optical uses the lenses to zoom in and doesn't degrade the image too much - digital just enlarges the image captured on the chip and as a result the image does degrade badly.
Depends on your budget really. Nikon, Sony & Samsung do some excellent compacts - the higher the megapixels the better. If you can stretch to it get a digital SLR since they'll have more features that would be useful if you're out investigating. If money is tight try Tesco or Asda, my partner picked up a really good digital compact for £30 (reduced from £60) at Asda the other week and it's excellent.

Thanks for the tips DB, I certenly will take a look at the supermarkets, my buget not exactly huge but I rekkon I could stretch to £150 or so.
yesterday I found a site that were doing cameras specificaly for adding to telescopes or large lenses for stargazing and got tempted to buy but I guess thats not going to be any use indoors.
Do you think both an opticle and a digital together is better than opticle alone? |

Go for optical only. £150 should get you a decent camera. Take a look in Tescos at the sub SLR's such as Fuji.

Hi DB,
Im still looking and just discovering how hard it is to make a descision with all the choice there is out there but It looks to me like Fuji are the best value, those SLR long zoom ones are very reasonable and seem to have many functions of some really expensive stuff.
I love the canon EOS range but they are mega expensive and very much out of my reach.Kodak seem a little dissapointing to me with nothing much out there but compacts. Lumix seem quite good and reasonable to so will be taking a more in depth look at them later on.
At the moment I strongly suspect I will go for a FUJI HS10 or possibly the HS20 that is only just out, These have a massive X30 opticle zoom, are 12mp, and also have HD video capabilities. To be honest I can't find a better camera for that price range.(should be able to capture a few UFO's with that sort of zoom capability)
I was reading up on Wikkipedia about SLR cameras and they are the pro choice so thanks again for the tips. |

I wan't to get filming ASAP now and as a tempary plan, I have had a couple of ideas, the first is to get my old phone (sony erricson 2mp camera on it) and stick in a bigger card then I will cellotape it to the wall recording over night.
Another idea is to also get a webcam for my laptop and position that in correct areas hoping to get these lights.
I was thinking though, will I capure anything if its at night time and pitch black? or would I have to light the area witha torch? |

If your old phone has a low resolution camera then you may have trouble interpreting the data captured - if indeed you capture anything.
If you can light the areas with torches etc it would help identify the source of any noises picked up whether the be paranormal or normal.
