Now I know this isn't a ghost story but the incident shook me up a bit.
We didn't think anything of it last night or this morning until later this afternoon we decided to take a look around the property.
We bought 30 acres that surround my Grandfather's house. Weekends we come up and get away from the city and visit with family and friends.
It started yesterday just before dusk. We were bringing in packages from the vehicle when it started to rain and thunder. Just as we brought in the last of the packages we heard what sounded like a womans scream.
It came from the wash which is about 300 yards away from the house.
My husband and I in unison said "Cougar". We've had them around the property before. Not that unusual for the area. The dogs keep them from getting too close to the chicken coop and the corrals.
My Aunt came up for dinner and cards, and during this time we again heard the screams of the Cougar, closer than before.
We all thought the screams were a little more horrifying than usual. We decided that our imaginations were running wild. The weather didn't help matters either. It was raining pretty hard and there was quite a bit of thunder.
The dogs were barking up a storm so we went outside to see if the Cougar was a little more courageous than usual coming up closer to the house.
We didn't see anything within the yard lights we have up, but the dogs would not go outside the lighted areas.
We didn't think anymore of it and continued with our card game. Again the screams. We've never heard them so often before. It was pretty eerie.
We decided that in the morning we would go out and find the tracks of the Cougar since it rained they would be easy to spot in the mud.
Well we forgot this morning with chores to do, but later on this afternoon my Aunt called and asked it we had checked on the Cougar tracks yet.
So, Hubby and I went looking for the Cougar tracks. We looked all around the wash area where we have seen the tracks before and near the house where we thought we heard the screams not one track!
We ran into some of our neighbors at the store this evening and they too heard the screams last night. They also went looking for the tracks but found none.
My Husband, said that the Cougar was farther out than where we looked. Sound does travel far in the open.
Still, in the past we have heard the Cougar and have found the tracks. This time nothing, it gave me the creeps. Not to mention the screams were allot different than usual too. |

Well, the Cougar was out again last night. The screams made my skin crawl.
Went out this morning to see if we could find tracks and sure enough we found allot of them.
Just like my husband said, he (the cougar) was allot further away from the house. He was out at the base of the mountains.
Boy, was I letting my imagination run wild. I'm so embarassed
Next time more research before I write anything! |

Hee Hee
I think I have learned my lesson on this one.
Should have listened to my husband.
I'm so glad he has patience with me. |

Great story (!) even though you found out the cause of the screams were from a Cougar.
