In a recent poll Llancaiach Fawr was named as one of the Top Ten most haunted buildings in Britain. in almost every room, corridors and staircase, strange things have been experienced. Things seen, heard or felt, or sometimes odours in the air

A housekeeper known as “Mattie” is regularly heard and on a few occasions has been seen. The rustle of her petticoats has been heard in the bedchamber where it is believed she died, the saddest is the ghost of a little boy who fell to his death from one of the upper rooms. He makes himself known by touching peoples hands or pulling on their clothes

A figure seen in the surround area of the Manor is thought to be a sad spirit of someone who commited suicide or the victim of a murder. Another figure seen sitting at random desks and tables of the manor deep in thought who researchers and investigators even staff believe to be the spirit of Edward Prichard, master of Llancaiach Fawr during the Civil War period.

Now i have been to Llancaiach Fawr on many occasions and will be attending again very soon as their ghost watch season is now up and running bu t the best thing is that they have a ghost cam set up which you can look at all year round. It really is a spooky place. There are a lot of traditions and curses which must be taken seriously about the place to. Cursed bed, and also an engraving of a pentagram in the stone which people to this day are still not sure if it is supposed to be a curse or put there in its day to ward off evil.

A few things, n day trips there, you feel uncomfortable but you definately start to notice things happen with the fewer people around and when its darker outside. I was actually to scared to look out of the windows when i am there. I have always had a fear of looking out of windows in the darkness because you can never see whats looking back at you and there are stories about a shadowy figure that walks around the manner house.

When you are there you constantly double taking on things you thought you have seen in the corner of your eye, I was the last one in a tour group before and i swear I wasn't I thought there was someone behind me cos I held the door open for them . lol

The ghost tours are very interesting though becaus ethey are never run by the same people so you know that its not staged or rehearsed

I have to confess I've always tended to avoid these kinds of tours, unless it was purely because the property interested me. Always had the feeling I'd end up surrounded by screaming kids, or people chattering away and trying to scare eachother. Maybe I'll go on one and after all.

Well Llancaiach fawr usually open later than normal touist type places anyway for this reason, they try to discourage children on the ghost evenings etc. Kids usually visit the manner house, but whenever i have been there its normally in the morning or early afternoon, there is nothing else around in Nelson where the Mannor House is so they cant make to much of a trip unless you go into the nearest town. For me its just a 20 minute bus ride home, but if you are visiting, then places like Caerphilly Castle , Castell Coch, Llancaiach Fawr, Cardiff Castle are all possible to visit in the same day
