The story of ghost at Ogmore Castle is of a local man who was told about some hidden treasure by the Lady of Ogmore. It was buried within the castle and she offered to share it with him. He agreed to this, but later after she died, greedgot the better of him and the local man returned at the castle and stole all the remaining gold. And apparently the ghost of the dead Lady confronted him and accused him of stealing the gold. She then apparently attacked him leaving him seriously hurt. When the man went home he suffered a mysterious illness which killed him. This illness has since been known as ‘The White Lady’s Revenge’
Just outside the ruin of the castle today you will see a river flowing behind with stepping stone crossing it, and the ghost has been seen walking across those stepping stones still guarding the gold. Some people report to have seen a soldier type spirit walking those stones but that has never been made clear and some assume that it it is a soldier spirit then its to relieve the lady of Ogmore in guarding the gold
In the actual village itself, you will see images and pictures in relation to the Lady Of Ogmore Ghost and many of the locals will be able to tell you a lot more about the sightings

There is also a story of the ghost of a poacher executed for poaching on the Ogmore castle land, but I have not heard much about this, but am looking into more.

A lot of the stories concerning the castle have become very mixed and its very difficult to separate fact from fiction, if any was fact at all.

For example, the stepping stones are no longer in their original position, having been moved to the castle location from their original site on the river in recent history.

Therefore Lady Ogmore, if she crossed the stones would have done so in an entirely different location. Is she attached to the stones rather than the location? I guess thats another debate.

Turning to the poacher, there is a famous legend associated with a poacher attached to the area, but it is with regards to his life being spared by the intervention of the daughter of the lord of the manor as opposed to his execution.

Kind Regards
Baruc.

Its in a local history book (the name of which currently excapes me).

From memory, the stones were nearer the village, but were moved following a child's drowning.

Kind Regards
Baruc.

Yeah, the stones were placed there in the very late 1100's to allow the lady of the castle to meet her lover accross the water without any of them falling ill of the tide, Orinally there were 52 stepping stones, but over the years the land mass increased. The stones were originally elsewhere but have always been there with the castle. Its either that or my years up being born in south wales and growing up studying welsh history is wrong.

If its any help, when I typed my original response, the book that came to mind was one of the 'Glamorgan Histories' volumes, but I doubted this so didn't mention it.

Again, from memory, the original location of the stones was where the suspension bridge is situated.

The area is rich in legends, but as I mentioned before, they're starting to become fuzzy, especially in the last 15 years or so.

Kind Regards
Baruc.
