I saw something in the sky when I was 8 years old, in the late 1960's.

I was at infants school and it was play time so we were all out and about running around and playing. One of the other boys stopped me and pointed skywards. When I looked up I saw a nice blue sky and fluffy white clouds and the main object of interest...

It was a relatively small craft, not a classic flying saucer at all but conical in shape and vaguely like the capsule from the end of a moon rocket. There was a canopy on the top and the craft appeared to be angled as if to give the pilot a clear view of the children playing below whilst it was stationary in the sky.

Our little group consisted of four 8 year old boys and we all pointed and waved and generally thought that seeing a "space ship" was wonderful. I can't say if any of the other children saw it.

After a few moments a female teacher came to usher us inside, we shouted and pointed and she looked backwards and upwards over he shoulder and said "yes" and then continued to usher us inside. She must have seen whatever we saw and I've always wondered if she ushered us inside because of it and the interest it was apparently showing in us children.

When I got home I excitedly told my mother that we'd seen a space ship today and she laughed and said something like "sure you did." And that was that the end of the matter and I probably waited 30 years before telling anyone else, and I've never seen anything like it since.

We obviously knew what fixed wing aircraft and helicopters looked like.

We are about the same age and when I was young I saw something similar, Years later and getting to know aircraft better I think I saw a blimp in the distance and not a UFO. Sounds just like what you saw...

Hello.

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think that it was a blimp because of the roughly capsule type shape and the canopy being on the top, also a blimp would move, at least a little, whereas this remained stationary. It is a possibility...

I'll never know what it was, I can't even remember the other childrens names now and even if I did they may not remember it.

If you think about it I'm sure you have had several incidents of "high strangnes" that's a term used to describe somethng that's just not quite right typically it's an odd memmory of something out of the ordinary that for whatever reason, we don't find verry odd until years later. Interesting indeed.

I'll bet you have family members who also reported seeing something strange in there past?

Yes. I have had several incidents of high strangeness. The "golliwog" (in another thread) and the "UFO" were both one of a kind but there have been a series of other things throughout my life. My parents lived in a haunted house before I was born and my mother has had a few "incidents of high strangeness." I have two sisters and one of them has too, they're identical twins but the other is very closed minded, like my mother, and immediately shuts down any talk of anything out of the ordinary. I suppose that many if not all of us have experienced strange things.

I am quite open minded but I don't tend to believe easily. I'm convinced that whatever us children saw was real and a craft of some sort rather than a natural phenomenon, illusion or mass misinterpretation of something ordinary. Of course, if it was a craft it doesn't necessarily follow that it was from another planet even though it was not recognisably a helicopter or fixed wing aeroplane.

I am quite willing to believe that it was an advanced Earthly craft of some sort but that would raise the question of what it would be doing stationary above an infants school on the outskirts of an industrial town in North Eastern England while the pilot apparently watched the children playing.

Hello,

I posted about it in "My childhood experience" in the "A friend in need" section.

I suppose that I shouldn't use that term so if I mention it again I'll just say "dark apparition."

Twinks was kind enough to explain what a golliwog is.
Being from the states I had never heard it before.
