Hi there all, here is my first UFO sighting, it was witnessed by myself my brother and his freind.

One evening back in the late 90's, (about 97), I went outside to see what my brother and his freind was up to. They was having a barberque and it was about 11 p.m.

I joined them as I was bored. After about 1 hour of talking I looked into the sky, thats when I spotted it..

At about the height of 2 or 3 houses and the size of a large footbal I spotted a superbright white intense light traveling across the sky. It was moiving very erraticly heading in a general direction but wobboling all over the place and making odd turns and pulsating. It was leaving a small trail and had a blue lightning swirling and flickering around it, something like the beating wings of a humming bird.

It was silent and all of a sudden accelerated at an alarming rate and was gone out of our sight.
Looking back on the sighting I find it difficult to catergorise, is this a type of orb sighting or was it a UFO? I went with UFO.

Hello Flossy,
Yes we all watched it, we was all amazed.
People need to watch the sky more..
UFO sightings are getting much more common these days and if you look up into the sky you may also see one. At the moment there is a boom of sightings being reported in Scottland and the North of England.

This is a sighting that occurred 14 years ago. Given the flawed nature of human memory do you not think that quite possibly you may not be entirely accurate with your recollection Agentscott?.

May have been a helicopter, Chinese lantern or remote controlled device. IMO it was certainly a UFO as it was not identified but whether it was an alien spacecraft is a different matter altogether.

Hi D B,
The sighting remanes very clear in my head as we were talking about it for a long time after, I was drawing illistrations for others to see and it was so odd that to forget that would be strange alone.

It was a crystal clear night and it was chilly I remember like it was yesterday.

That was no helicopter and as a convicted chinese lantern launcher myself i can identify them at a mile off.
They are obvious.
If this was not an alien ship as I beleive then it was, it's at least secret technology of ours.
When this thing accelerated it showed us phenominal acceleration.

I take your point Agentscott and am not conclusively ruling out the possibility that you sighted an aircraft of unknown origin that night 14 years ago but it's an acknowledged fact that has been confirmed by much research that the human memory is fallible.

Episodic memory is widely conceived as a fundamentally constructive, rather than reproductive, process that is prone to various kinds of errors and illusions.

One of the least controversial—but most important—observations is that memory is not perfect. Instead, memory is prone to various kinds of errors, illusions and distortions.

Taken from the article: The cognitive neuroscience of constructive memory: remembering the past and imagining the future.

That would have been handy.
Still we are more likley thesedays to see UFO's then ghosts so if I keep looking hopefully I will have the oppertunity to film again. I beleive UFO's and ghosts are probobly part of a bigger picture anyway and connected.....
Orbs are small flying balls of light that fly around in peoples houses so I consider them an indoor UFO but others always catergorise them as ghosts. Really what I witnessed in the sky technicly was an orb with flickering blue wings.(a bit like the snitch from Potter, wonder where they got that idea from)

This UFO in this post certenly wasn't conventional and it seemed so odd, who would have desinged something like that?

I definately believe ufo/ets have visited us, but nowhere near the scale reported. Possibly 90% reports fake/mistaken.

A few I believe in - roswell, various astronauts have talked about ufos, there was a nasa mission early 90s sts something - they had a rod you can watch it on youtube - nasa footage shows hundreds ufos materialising, possibly bob lazar, loads of presidents government officials etc also nasa mission where the astronaut says "weve still got the alien spacecraft under surveillance" then it goes quiet, the abduction of that logger in the 70s

All have been convincingly debunked.

D B Sweeney, id have to completely disagree with you there - can you explain how theyve been convincingly debunked?

Even just explain the tether incident nasa sts-75 - the ufos can be seen to be operating intelligently and pulsating

http://ufo-tv.com/nasa-sts-75-tether-ufo-video-explained-and-replicated

These are just two alternative (and far more plausible explanations) to the Tether footage but there are many more.

Check out Occam's Razor - http://www.skepdic.com/occam.html

Occam's razor is also called the principle of parsimony. These days it is usually
interpreted to mean something like "the simpler the explanation, the better" or "don't multiply hypotheses unnecessarily." In any case, Occam's razor is a principle which is frequently used outside of ontology, e.g., by philosophers of science in an effort to establish criteria for choosing from among theories with equal explanatory power. When giving explanatory reasons for something, don't posit more than is necessary. Von Däniken could be right: maybe extraterrestrials did teach ancient people art and engineering, but we don't need to posit alien visitations in order to explain the feats of ancient people. Why posit pluralities unnecessarily? Or, as most would put it today, don't make any more assumptions than you have to.

Also: The reason no logical explanation seems credible to UFOlogists is probably because those making and hearing the reports either do not want to hear a logical explanation or they make little or no effort to find one. In any case, the fact that some pilots or scientists claim they cannot think of any logical explanations for some perceptual observations is hardly proof that they have observed alien spacecraft.

I will check out these links. but

I think how plausible the explanatons are is a matter of opinion and personal bias. I certainly believe its possible that nasa +/or US Government +/or other Governments know of the existence of extraterrestrial life, and visitations to earth but want to keep it secret.

What about astronauts claims like ed mitchell? Shocked

I think how plausible the explanatons are is a matter of opinion and personal bias.
Which is more plausible - that aliens are amongst us (and have been here for tens of thousands of years) having travelled across the Universe using massively advanced technology but never made verifiable contact or landed/crashed in a densely populated area
OR
that the human mind (like it does with ghosts, lake monsters etc) is subject to misperceptions, misinterpretation, biases, the need to believe and faulty memories?.
If the US/Russian/British Governments have been covering up the fact that they've retrieved bodies and craft on many occasions (given the number of people that would need to be involved) where are the Whistleblowers?....Bob Lazar?. Where are the non military civilian witnesses?. Where are the numerous deathbed confessions?.
What's the Alien agenda and why are they taking so long to expedite it?.

What about astronauts claims like ed mitchell?
One mans opinion not the general consensus of the scientific community.
