I live not far from a church. It only dates from the early 1960s, like most of the houses in our area. Before they were built there was nothing but open fields and rolling hills. It was built on Church of England land owned by the Southwell Diocese.

I don't know, why it was built on that particular site. The main axis, and I don't know whether it's simply due to geology, is aligned NE - SW. With the altar at the former. Above it is a blank wall.

All the windows are tall, with clear glass. So you can see right through the building. There are two sets of doors. The main doors. And a side door into the vestry. When the church is not in use, both are locked.

Fronting the church is a car park. A path runs all round the building. Paved to the front, gravel round the other 3 sides. At the altar end are steps down to a pavement. There is a clear view up and down this road.

One day, in the mid-1980s, my sister and I were walking past the church when we stopped, dead. An old man was staring out at us from inside! We clearly saw his face. And he looked solid. Like a real person.

Although unnerved, we checked all the windows, and saw nothing further. We found the doors secured, as the church was not being used. We saw no-one on the paths, or in the car park. There was no-one about on any of the roads... . It was broad daylight and sunny.

I have related this experience to neighbours over the years, but no-one can shed any light on this. I know of no recurrance... .

Good sighting with two observers. Sounds about right for a residual experience.

Do you thing we both saw it because we are related? I think we do have some kind of 'psychic bond'. Possibly inherited from our Nan, Dad's late mother, who was an amazing woman.

Hard to say why you both saw it, but if you saw the same exact thing, then it was there for a brief time prob visible to anyone who would have walked by.

From what I have read ghosts are a complex phenomena. One view is that, during their lifetime, people leave an 'imprint' [a 'morphic resonance'] in places they inhabit. And that buildings, as stone, brick and glass contain silica [like a computer] 'record' this. Each building, apparently, 'resonates' to a different 'frequency' [the Great Pyramid to 16 hertz, for example]. And, if someone is 'atuned' to that 'wavelength', an image can be produced. A bit like a television picking up a transmission as a picture. Maybe my sister and I just happened to 'tune in' at that time... .
