I have had a lot of people listen to this and no one has a clue. We spent hours the next day trying to recreate anything similar to the sound but could not. I have recently however heard some EVP's on the show "Ghost Hunters" that sound very similar, unfortunately that means nothing. Similarity is not an exact ID but I can tell you this much this EVP was captured with a High 8 Camera I set up trying to capture a "ghost cat" at a cabin in WV about 2 years ago. |
MRX,
At what time did you record this EVP?
By chance did you get any pictures of the 'ghost cat' at the cabin?

Have you ever recorded an EVP during the day? |

I was wondering if there was more EVP activity during the night than during the day?
And if so, do you know why? |

I will take a stab at this one.. Fact.. at night you can pick up distant AM radio stations that you could not during the day, Fact2, you can hear distant sounds more easily at night. Reason?
At night, there is less noise, less radio, electronic and other interference than doring the day due to lower human activity as well as less electrical interference from the sun.
Since EVP's are electrical in nature I would surmise that it would be more likely to be easier for them to get through at night. That would be my guess anyway. |

So, in fact, the EVP's are also active during the day, but for us to record them, there is to much interference.
Now is it possible to use an ordinary tape recorder to record EVP's or do you need something high tech?

That's one theory I have heard before YB and it does make sense. It's the prime theory of why there may be more "ghost" activities reported at night as well (less interference). It could all be related to the sun (photons, electrons etc.) or the lack thereof. As for using ordinary mechanical recorders, yes standard magnetic recorders were used for years to record EVP. The drawback is there is a lot more noise with mechanical recorders where the digital provides no moving parts so less noise. Not to mention the ability to upload an entire nights session within minutes rather than in real time. |

I was finally able to hear the difference between a digital and 'mechanical' recorder.
There is no comparison.
The mechanical does have quite a bit of hissing.
They didn't 'catch' any EVP's, just normal house noises.
But those noises sure did come in clear! |

Yep the difference is clear :)
You can find some nice models out there that are well priced if you look around. Look for the best sample rate among other feautures you may want or need. |

We just added a K2 meter to the list today, managed to find one under $40 before the Ghost Hunters craze drove the prices through the roof. It's a nice little meter, not very accurate but it detects EMF nonetheless and is great for walk through. I plan on giving it a field test next week in the funeral home :) |
