I would have put this under the Lavender heading but that huge conversation seems to gone off on a tangent
I've actually copied this from my forum, saves me writing it all out again lol
I too have encountered a distinct smell on a vigil.......yes, in a pub . The pub was undergoing renervations and an aparition had been reported along with the usual losing of hammers and cabinets falling off walls etc(maybe poor tradesmen....who knows).
The pub had 4 distinct snug like zones. In one area (not the one the aparition was sighted in) there was a sudden smell of aniseed. We all (about 5 of us) gathered in the area and breathed it in for a good 10-20 seconds, then it vanished.
This is not the type of pub where you would drink Perno and upon checking the day after we found none had been sold in over a fortnight. The smell just vanished. There was not trace of a source, no bottles, glasses, spillages etc. I am no expert but I don't think smells like that can just appear then disappear.
Weeks later whilst talking to an old regular to the pub he explained to me that the pubs long gone bowling team would rub aniseed into their bowls whilst sitting in that snug area.
Was it the bowling team, a sneaky pungent aniseed ball or a long lost glass of Perno? The jury is still out on this one |

When I was back in secondary school I got a strong whif of gas whilst on the bus to school. No one else smelt it and I put it to back of my mind. A few miles later we arrived at school to find the tip the school had been built on was venting it's trapped methane or whatever and the whole school was shut down for months as a leaking gas hazard. Spooky |

Thats a good point. I smelt gas like you would have from a gas pipe. That wouldn't have come from the schools leaking playing fields miles away and certainly not from the bus. |

Actually, natural gas, the kind used in your home is odorless as well.. the "odor " is added so you can detect a leak....
Could have been association so you could recognize the "gaseous" problem? |

It makes me wonder now how they knew about the gas leak in the grounds if it is odourless. There were Police all around and we were all ordered off site as we arrived. Nevermind, it was that long ago I'll never be able to exactly confirm where the smell came from or WHY ONLY I SMELT IT . |
