Caerphilly Castle is haunted by a few ghosts. Most famous is the Green Lady (Which old local legends suggested that the green lady was a very abnormal looking old crooked hag character but they got that confused with another legend known as Gwrach Y Rhibin which is the Moat Which of Caerphilly Castle)

In fact The Green Lady was a french lady called Alice who apprently died after her lover was executed. She was basicalled having an affair, She was married to the dude living in the castle at the time and she went to confess her sins to a local monk who told the dude she was married to who owned the castle, he had the lover killed the monk killed and alice died of a broken heart. She is very occasionally seen by many people, Also the castle famous leaning tower smells of lavendar perfurme now and again but no wild lavendar grows in the area.

Spirits have also been seen on the castle embankments where armys would have been forced to patrol. At night there is always an uneasy feeling about the place and once i can figure out how to get photos uploaded i will share my pics i have of the castle and some strange goings on. To the locals I am considered a sort of unofficial expert of the castle, so any questions please ask.

I too would enjoy a couple months tramping around the area visiting these castles.
Are most castles privately owned?

Most of the well maintained castles in wales are managed by a company called CADW who's main objective is to restore the castles and keep them running. They run projects aswell which the public can get involved in and they have a great work placement scheme for teenagers wanting to get into restoration They are open to the public, entrance fee varies but very cheap considering. Cardiff castle however is owned by cardiff castle and costs nearly £10 to enter which i dont think is worth it personally . Caerphilly Castle is usually about £3 to get in however I have not had to pay since i was a teenager as I am always there. But if you are interested in visiting these welsh castle it would be worth your while looking at getting a Heritage Pass, A one off fee gts you entry into all castles and discount of gift shop stuff etc. lol I should work for the tourist board.

LOL, it is amazing how modern phones take a batter picture than some camera's to be honest.

Castle with a rainbow and castle in silohuette are taken on Sony Ericsson K800 (3.1mpi)

The first one where the castle is lit up was taken on a k850i (5mpi)

And the castle at night picture with the full moon was taken on an LG VIewty (5mpi)

My father is a professional photographer and throughout the years he has been teaching to me to take a good picture using what ever you can. So for quick snaps I use my phones. lol

Following the theme on camera phones, this was taken this afternoon (about 3 hrs ago to be honest) on a Blackberry 8310 Curve. Only a 2 Mpi camera, not up there with the Sonys

Typical that when i turn up, there's scaffolding and yellow plastic around the towers Sad

So Solstice, on your visit to the castle today, was there any particular area that you felt would be worth investigating?
