mmmm, that looks weird. I only know of a fireball type sighting in swansea in 2006, hadn't ralised they had one before then which such a perfect picture. You know anymore about that day?
Have you checked it out on the British Astronomical Association website. They log every fireball sighting and every meteor sighting etc. Any mor info about the day
etc |

Apparently there are two suggestions. One is it's a sofa size meteor exploding on entering the earth's atmosphere, and the other is it's a contrail from a plane reflecting the sunset.
Have to admit, the latter sounded ridiculous at first, but the more I look the more i see it could be |

That is NOT a contrail.. Contrails are ice crystals, THAT is fire.. Meteor for sure....
Besides, a contrail would look like the left side of the pic glowing yellow..what is on the right side is an explosion like fireball.. |

Wow!
Talk about having your camera ready!
Great photo.
I'd say it to be a meteor. |

Hard to be certain without movement.
I agree with Solstice Moon. I think it could be a contrail intersecting a cloud. If a high cloud is sunlit and overexposed on camera, that's exactly how it looks. I have several slides of clouds that look similar. Those slides are my rejects.
Remember Ockham's razor. The simplest explanation is probably the right one. |

Actually a meteorite is a simple explanation as they bombard earth daily. However that said you seem to have a great photo of ice crystals in water vapor relflecting the sun. Contrail wins this round. |
