Do you ever have a foreboding that something will go wrong? My sister has this quite a bit. She recently told me of two instances involving her and her husband. [These are not in chronological order, and she couldn't recall the exact dates.]
1) My sister was planning to go shopping in her car. But insisted her husband go instead. He grumbled a bit, but finally agreed. After about half and hour she started to worry. And phoned him. It turned out the key had snapped off in the ignition, and he was awaiting assistance from the AA!
2) They were planning to drive up with their kids to Telford where his parents live. And aimed to travel in his car. But my sister had bad feeling about the impending journey. And insisted he travel alone in his car. And she would follow behind with the kids in her car.
Part way through the trip, she looked on in horror as his car was struck by a vehicle coming out of a side road. Point of impact: right where the kids would've been sitting! |

I had a few of those. The ones that came true were of my X, one of her car wreck and one of her almost dieing at childbirth. Both were at a very emotional time in my life. Haven't had any since and I'm glad at that. |

I'm sorry to hear about those, YB. My sympathies.
I am relieved you have not had recent experiences. |

No there's nothing unusual at all in this, so most people tend to ignore it
As has been suggested you might put thoughts into your head and they then become self fulfilling prophecies, like falling down stairs in your case
In a dream state you're not fully asleep either so it's possible you could have known it was raining and may have overheard your Dad talking of going swimming
Premonitions are only really plausible when they don't involve ourselves
In other words predicting what is going to happen to someone else, that you cannot influence and that hasn't happened to them before or at least not to your knowledge

Sheer coincidence is often the simplest explanation plus the fact that we remember the 'hits' but never all the times no coincidental events occurred. It's a very common human trait.

You are such a sceptic, DB Ever heard of 'having faith'
Chandu009, I don't entirely agree with "premonitions are only really plausible when they don't involve ourselves". Try an experient. If you feel that you have a 'sense of foreboding' about something. Or a feeling that 'something is going to happen'. Then write it down immediately. Give a copy to another person [or two others] and ask them to keep it safe. If, or when, that event comes to pass, then the occurance can be checked against what you've written. And, if the two concur, in most details, then you've had a 'premonition'. As well as having 'independent verification'. Simples.

Hi Alex,
Faith- Belief that does not rest on logical proof or material evidence. ...
Not really good way to determine fact from fiction or truth from falsehoods. Your advice on premonitions is sound but the accuracy of the premonition depends on how closely or loosely you're prepared to interpret it. Many people claimed to predict 9/11 but their descriptions were ultimately vague and as always happens a high degree of retrofitting occurred.

I should've seen this coming! But, unfortunately, my crystal ball, like the weather, is a bit cloudy at the moment I come from a mixed Protestant and Catholic, but I'm not really either. Probably because, having lived in the Far East as a child, my beliefs [spritual, rather than religious] are now more inclined towards Taoism and Buddhism.
Re 'predictions': I've always been a bit wary of claims made for Nostradamus' so-called 'prophecies'. He couched them in such obscure terms, they are widely open to interpretation. I guess he had to be careful not to fall foul of the oppressive authority of the Church in those days. Look what happened to Giodarno Bruno, and could've befallen Galileo, just because they supported Copernican theory. |
