Hy there, i've been doing some ghost hunting for a while now, and i'm not really lucky when it comes to pictures, so i would like to try doing some serious evp, seing as it seems to work pretty much best when it comes to ghosts. My question is, what sort of recorder should i use, a digital one or is there something that works best and what are the basic things i have to take care of? anbody can help me with that`? |

Hi, if you are wanting EVPs any recording device can yield results but there are better devices which have better frequency responses it will give you clearer results and might make trying to figure out exactly what you caught a bit easier. We use a wide variety of audio recorders and I've tried a lot, my favorite one now is the RT-EVP but the Zoom H2 or H3 will work quite well for higher end usage. If you have a smaller budget for the hobby you can pick up a digital voice recorder for under $30 these days.
Nextget a good audio program to help analyze your data. |

Thank u very much for your answer, i guess i'll start with a normal DVR and try out, how good it works and if i'm able to catch something at all. So basically i go to a place where i assume it might be haunted and just start by introducing myself and then ask if somebody is here? or should i look out for something special? i'm not into prayer or rituals so i want to keep it simple for my first try. |

Nope just talk to whoever may be there. Keep your line of questioning geared toward information gathering. Ask questions like "who, when, how, what" try to get responses that answer questions and fill in blanks. Think of yourself as a detective, your job is to profile the subject. After you ask a question pause for at least 15 second or longer, also note any sounds you may hear, natural or not. This way you can look at them a bit closer durring analysis. |

I just tend to use a normal small digi recorder, although sometimes you get quite a lot of static on it. I must upgrade sometime soon. |

Static may not be a bad thing though, it depends on what is actually happening to during the EVP. Some suggest that it is easier for the ghost, etc to manipulate the static that is why some researchers, including some of the first, used white noise generators in their EVP research. Is something speaking, or is it just manipulating magnetic fields to alter frequencies on devices? Sometimes it helps to have both old and new technologies in these experiments. |
