Exactly what I expected him to say - there is no smoke without fire and I believe there most likely was a haunting there, then hollywood got hold of it and exaggerated the events out of all proportion. |

It was not actually Hollywood who created the OTT demonic haunting that supposedly made the Lutz's flee. It was Ronnie Defeo's Lawyer and George and Kathy Lutz who together created the Amityville Horror which was then put into book form by the author Jay Anson. Since the Defeo murders and apart from the 28 days the Lutz family stayed in the house - no ghostly or demonic activity has ever been reported there by the occupants.

Well as Christopher Lutz said the stepfather was dabbling in the occult and reciting demons names - the events could have been centred around the father and not the house.
Just because they were after a buck after the events, doesn't mean there wasn't some truth to them. |

Anyone can recite the names of demons or perform so called 'occult' ceremonies but it's probably not going to summon up any demons or invite evil into a home. IMO it's all in the mind - as a certain member's reluctance to do a Ouija board has illustrated
No activity followed George Lutz after he left the house. Maybe Chris has some dislike of his stepfather or wants to now cash in on his connection to the mythos by hinting that he's got a story to tell?.
All accounts, whether half factual or fanciful, suggest that the house was the cause of the tragic events and subsequent haunting not any one individual.
Personally, having read a number of books on the subject and having followed it since I first bought the book back in 1978, I believe the whole thing is a fabrication made to make money for the main protagonists and originally was hatched make Butch Defeos insanity plea seem more credible.

i think we will never know the true story behind it now
this is from the link
Lutz said the book -- billed as a true story -- exaggerated the facts. By the time Hollywood had the story, it became pure fabrication.
so if the book was exaggerated i,d love to hear Christopher Lutz version of things |

Sounds like he's getting ready to release a book, probably Amityville -The True Story.

D B Sweeney, on the occult - many many people who used to be involved in satanic type worship and rituals claim to have been present when demonic entities would appear in a circle (usually after a sacrifice) - if they are not crazy or liars - how would you explain that? |

IMO they do fall into both those categories Cactus. If it's so easy to conjure up a demon with a few choice chants why have we never seen any film footage of such an amazing, world changing ceremony?. Surely, authentic film of a Demon would help to win converts to the dark side and help in the Devil's fight against god and his army of angels?
People get involved in Occult practices for all kinds of reasons - social, sexual, power trips, worship etc but I've yet to see a single photo or clip of film that has captured one of the Devil's minions.
What I do see is a bunch of saddos living out their fantasies dressed in robes and getting their kicks out of killing chickens and pigs, thinking they're something they're not. I like to think of active occultists as a bit like the Freemasons but with more blood and KY gel
You've got more chance of creating your own ghost via the Ouija board (if you're brave enough that is ) than you have of bringing up a demon from Lucifer's living room.
When I see some evidence - even a pic or preferably some film that's been authenticated by reputable sources - then I'll consider the existence of all things demonic.

As far as the freemasons go - 3 of my uncles are masons and it is just a brotherhood - no secret society/devil worship etc - just do charity work - one of my uncles who I am close to when I asked him said ''it is just a money racket - a way to keep in regular contact with businessmen and politicians'' and I believe him- there is rituals and secrets etc... but nothing supernatural
As far as these devil worshippers conjuring demons - I'm not saying I believe it but the claims from people who used to be involved is that say they can only do it in certain locations where there are strong energy fields - recording would be forbidden as it is obviously highly secretive |

As I said, "a bit like the Freemasons" . I know you're not saying you believe that they can conjour up demons but chance would dictate that someone would have caught something on film by now.
If we can find Saddam and Gaddaffi in a huge desert I'm sure it doesn't take much to secretly tail a bunch of deviants and film them in communion with the beasts of hell.

There are many different types of Freemasonry & Co-Masonry in the same way that there are many different types of Cars. And saying that all Freemasons are social groups is rather like saying I have a Trebant & thus all cars are made of cardboard.
Some Lodges as an example have Rosy Cross degrees of initiation, some do not. |

D B Sweeney, you have a point there.
KiloCharlie, I'm not an expert but in Northern Ireland Freemasonry is usually mixed with the orange order, but I can tell you my 3 uncles are catholic and in a lodge not associated with the orange order. As far as the degrees and their activities they wouldn't tell me.
I didn't know there were all different types of masonry - I thought all lodges basically done the same thing, but in slightly different ways to distinguish one from the other. |
