I've been reading about the alleged ghost of 50 Berkeley Square during the last few days.
This case seems to concentrate on the appearance of some sort of horrific apparition in a particular room (on the top floor I think) in this property. Those who witnessed the apparition were frightened to death or driven to insanity for the rest of their lives.
There are a couple of theories about this case, but I'm sure that the reality of what has happened there in the past is rather different to what has been described. Also why is it that once again we seem to have a case here where activity reached its height in the late 19th century, while the current occupiers of the property - Maggs Brothers - have reported nothing untoward at any time during their tenancy.
Those of high psychic sensitivity have described the property as highly charged with the walls almost crackling with psychic energy.
I've no doubt that certain events have happened at this house in the past which the reports losely at least relate to, but whether these followed the descriptions that are given is open to debate.
Interested to hear anyones thoughts about all this. |

Doesn't some 'ghost/spirit' activity decrease as years go by?
I'm sure some where in these posts is was said that after,
what was it.....300 or 400 years activity stops?
I'm sure someone will remember the correct information.

I would not want to be witness to something so horrific,
that it would drive one to death or insanity.
I am curious though, what was it that they witnessed? |

Details of what was seen are a bit vague but reports descriptions have ranged drom a dark shapless creature to the ghost of an old man with a "raw head, gaping mouth and grotesque claw like hands" who floats towards the witness with outstretched arms.
Apparently one of the owners of the property had an estranged brother who was so violent that he had to be locked in an upstairs attic and only fed through a straw.
The property lay empty for a number of years in the late 19th century with an elderly couple appointed as caretakers but even they didn't have a key to the haunted room. |

Well like I said there's often a significant difference between what is reported and what actually happened. I'm sure the reality is far less fantastic. I'm sure Berkeley Square is no exception.
There have been some more recent reports about faces and strange lights being seen in the windows of the top storey of this house but those are quite possibly from a small number of fanatics just wishing to keep the mystery going as it were.
I just find it strange how there never seems to be anything like that happening nowadays. All of these types of hauntings seem to be seated in the 19th century. |
